CUADROS REUTILIZADOS / REUSED PAINTINGS

Este es uno de los primeros tutoriales que hago, así que porfavor ténganme paciencia!!
Sucedió que hablando con una buena amiga sobre casas nuevas y decorar su propio espacio, estuve mirando muchos blogs de diseño de interiores, ( por favor no dejen de visitar Apartment Therapy) y después de día y medio de estar viéndolos comencé a mirar que podía hacer para mejorar algún espacio en mi casa, así que mirando por ahí encontré unos cuadritos que sirvieron para este proyecto y que no son exactamente para mí casa sino, para el nuevo apartamento de mi hermana y su esposo... y ya que no tienen muchos cuadros, fue perfecto...

This is one of the first tutorials I make, so please be patient!
Happened that one day talking with a friend about doing new things and decorating her new space, I was looking around some blogs about interior design, (please visit Apartment Therapy) and after a day and a half of reading posts, I started looking for something to do to update a place in my house, so looking around materials, I found some wood paintings that were perfect for this project.
And since my sister and her husband just moved in I thought I mke something for them.

Materiales

Lo siento, pero no soy fan de El chavo, ni del Chapulín, desde pequeña me dí cuenta que poco o nada me interesaba, así que no tuve problema en usar estos cuadritos que mi hermana y cuñado sacaron de su casa... también necesitamos lijas, pintura acrílica, pinceles, Linóleos (que hice para otro proyecto) y papel periódico para cubrir las superficies y hacer el trabajo sin preocupaciones.

Materials

Im sorry but Im not a fan of El Chavo or Chapulín, when I was little I realize that I really didnt like it, so I didnt had so much trouble of reuse this paintings, also we need sand paper, acrylic paintings, brushes, linoleum cravings ( I made them for another project) and newspaper to cover the surface I was working on.

1. Es importante lijar la superficie a trabajar ya que puede tener imperfecciones o mugre de hace rato, así que no sobra dejar la superficie lista...

1.  First sand the pictures, it may have dirt, or bumps, so its good to make it smooth

2. Luego pintamos las tablitas con acrílico blanco, suficiente como para tapar la imagen anterior (esta me tomó casi 4 capas de pintura blanca ) Déjalo secar entre cada capa para que quede mucho mejor.

2. Start by painting the boards white, enough to cover up the image underneath (It took me almost 4 layers of painting) Let it dry between layers.

3. Para propósitos del tutorial y apelando al gusto de mi cuñado usé unos linóleos que hice hace tiempo de cámaras fotográficas, una pentax asahi y una diana... usé acrílico negro para hacer impresiones de ambos grabados.

3. For this tutorial and thinking about the taste of my brother in law I used some linocut stencils that I had for a previous project. They were from Pentax Asahi camera drawing and a Diana Camera.. I used black acrylic paint to make the prints in both boards.

4. Asi se veía la diana apenas la quité, en realidad pensé que iba a quedar mejor, pero ya que sobre el linóleo había usado tinta con base grasosa, el acrílico no funcionó muy bien... aunque me permitió tener una especie de calco para pintarlos encima....

4. This is how they looked like after I use the linoleum cut, I thought it was gonna look better, but since I used before the linoleum with an oil paint and the acrylic is water based, it didnt stick well, so I used this as a tracing to paint them over...

5. Los pinté bien, cuidando los detalles aunque dejé que tuvieran la sensación de grabados, con cortes y poca definición en algunas partes. Ya que es acrílico no usé una laca para protegerlos pero si lo desean pueden hacerlo sin problema!

5. I paint them with the acrylic painting, leaving some details out, to make them feel more like engravings. Since I used acrylic painting, I didnt apply any lacquer, but you may if you want to.

Creo que quedaron muy bien, y ya fueron aprobados por mi hermana así que espero entregarlos pronto y poder mostrarles una foto ya montados en el espacio en el que van a estar!

I think they looked pretty good, and they really liked them!

I hope to post a photo of them in the new house.

DIY JUGUETES PARA GATOS / DIY CAT TOYS

El fin de semana pasado fue un verdadero DIY weekend, todo comenzó porque mi hermana tiene un nuevo integrante en la familia, una hermosa gata a la que llamaron Margarita, y como en mi casa es todo sobre hacer las cosas uno mismo, pues decidí hacerle unos juguetitos para ella y para mi gata Olivia.

Last weekend my sister adopt a kitten named Margarita, and since in my house its all about DIY, I decided to make her and my cat Olivia some toys.

Materiales:
Telas de varios colores y texturas, relleno (usé retazos de telas que ya no servían para más), palos de balso resistentes, cuerda (usé un par de cordones viejos) y una bolsita de CatNip (esta es opcional, aunque a Olivia le encantó el olor, la compré por $4.000 en la veterinaria).
Materials:
Scrap fabric (I used colored fabric and some pieces of old jeans), filling ( I used some fabric leftovers that were too small to do something else), wood sticks (not so weak) some catnip (optional, but cats really love the smell, pretty cheap in the vet) and some shoelaces that you can cut.

1. Cortar las telas para armar los juguetes, hice tres bolitas, un ratoncito y corté cuatro mini bolsitas para poner el catnip, en caso de que se rompieran los juguetes y se saliera el relleno.

1. We start by cutting the fabrics in pieces, I made three balls, one mouse like and some small pockets since the Cat nip Im using comes in dry leaves, I didnt want it to spill everywhere.

2. Primero cosemos  las bolsitas para el CatNip... y tener el relleno listo.
2. We have to make first the CatNip bags, so we can have the filling ready to use.

Bolsitas con el catnip, miden aprox 3cmsx3cms

3. Rellenar las Bolsitas del CatNip  y cerrarlas, ahi Olivia llegó a mi cuarto y estaba feliz oliendo las bolsitas, encontró el papel de la etiqueta y se acostó encima, y por eso aparece en la foto siguiente...

3.You have to fill the bags with the CatNip and seal them. while doing this my cat came to my room and has very happy smelling the bag, so she stay there while I was working...

4. Coser las telitas para armar los juguetes.
4. Next, you have to place the filling (CatNip bags and scraps of fabril) and start sewing the toys.

Para armarlas, a la vez que iba cosiendo los bordes, iba poniendo el relleno, para que las marcas de costura fueran uniformes y de una sola vez coserlos, dejé que salieran tiras de tela para hacerlos más interesantes.

Como algunos de ellos iban a estar pegados a un palito, al coserlos puse los cordones de tal manera que salieran del juguete.

While I was sewing the edges I was putting the filling so the seams where uniform,  I also leave some strands of fabric out so the where more interesting to the cats.

Since some of them where intended to be attached to a stick, I place the piece of the shoelace in a way that it will be pocking out of the toy.

That's it! Now start playing with your car, Im sure that it will love it and youll love whatching him play with it!

Nuevo año, nuevos propósitos, es lo que me ha traído acá nuevamente, después de casi 4 años de no postear nada, estoy de nuevo intentándolo.

Por estas semanas después de charlas inspiradoras, he pensado mucho en cual sería mi vida perfecta en lo que al trabajo se refiere, primero porque últimamente no he sido muy creativa (o estado ocupada) en el trabajo, no por falta de amor sino por que trabajando en una agencia In House no da mucho campo para la creatividad.

Todo esto me llevo a pensar que volver a escribir y a hacer tutoriales para Malecanto puede ser una excelente idea, comenzando por que siempre he sido una persona muy creativa y que trata de inventarse la manera de hacer las cosas por si misma, desde pequeña aprendí a tejer, a coser  y a usar varios materiales para crear casi cualquier cosa, así que ya que últimamente es tendencia el DIY porque no comenzar de una vez?

New year, new proposes, its what has bring me here again, after 4 years of no posting, here I am trying again.

Last weeks after a few inspiring talks, I have been thinking about how my perfect life would be in terms of work, first because lately I havent been so creative (and busy) at work, not because the lack of love to it but because working in a In house agency doesnt give you much space to create.

All this make me think that writing back and making tutorials for Malecanto is a great idea, and since I have always have been a person who likes to create things by herself, like I learnt how to knit and sew when I was a little girl, why not to start again now that DIY it is a trend?
